SUMMARY:All About Community Asset Transfer
DESCRIPTION:Find out how your community organisation can take on assets in Midlothian for the use of the community. \nRegister on Eventbrite\n\n\n\n\nCommunity Asset Transfer (CAT) is the process in which community organisations have a right to request the local authority to take ownership\, or lease\, of any land or buildings that they could manage and bring public benefit to. A successful CAT application must meet a number of criteria around governance and the proposed benefit to the community it is in. \nThe current CAT process for Midlothian Council assets is outlined on their website. \nIn this session we will discuss: \n\nThe governance structure needed to make a CAT request\nThe risks and benefits of taking on a community asset\nDifferent kinds of community consultations methods that can be used to show your CAT will be of public benefit\nHow to write a sustainable business plan to show the viability of your project\n\nThis event will have expertise from Ruth Evans at DTAS; Catherine Duns\, Senior CLLE Worker at Midlothian Council; and MCA Lead Development Worker\, Natalie Welsh. \nPlease note: this event is for those who are interested in potentially taking on an asset from Midlothian Council either now or in the future. \nThere will be lunch provided after the event finishes from 12 – 1pm as an informal networking opportunity to meet other groups considering or in the CAT process. \nSpaces are limited so we request that organisations send no more than two representatives to attend the session.

SUMMARY:Peer Support - Online Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Register now on Eventbrite!\nFacilitated by the Scottish Recovery Network\, this 50min session will explore the power of peer support in community-based mental health & wellbeing. You’ll gain practical information\, free resources\, and hear examples of peer support in action. \nThis session is for those involved in or planning community-based projects\, and anyone curious about how peer support could enhance existing work in Midlothian. \nWhat is Peer Support? \nPeer support is a powerful approach that can help people with their mental health. It’s a mutual relationship where people with shared experiences support each other\, especially as they move through challenging times. \nThrough peer support\, people living with mental health challenges are seen as part of the solution. They have a significant and active role to play in supporting their own and others’ recovery. Walking alongside someone who understands\, who ‘gets it’\, helps people to feel less alone. It offers them the opportunity to explore their feelings and what will help them live the life they choose. \nPeer support exists in different forms such as peer support groups and paid peer workers in mental health services. But all peer support is rooted firmly in hope\, sharing experiences\, and an intentional relationship. \nWith the Scottish Government announcing a new round of the Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund\, including a commitment to two years of funding\, now is a great time to explore how peer support could strengthen your work or application to the fund. \nDetails \nPlease note this session will be hybrid\, with MCA’s Volunteer Managers Forum members joining in-person at our office. Everyone else is free to join the session online via Microsoft Teams. A link to join will be available when you register. \nQuestions? \nIf you have any questions or access requirements\, contact MCA at info@mca.scot \nRegister now on Eventbrite!
